Volleyball Legends Beginner Guide: Controls, Serving, Spins and Ranked

Learn the Volleyball Legends controls, how to serve, how Styles and Abilities work, where to earn free Yen and when Ranked opens at level 15.

Volleyball Legends is a fast 6v6 volleyball game where you can play casual matches with friends or climb a ranked ladder. After this guide you will know the keys for every move, how to serve, how the spin systems work and how to use your time in the lobby well. Details are as of October 2026, and the game updates often.

Controls you need first

The Roblox page and the wiki agree on the basics. On PC:

  • Bump: left click. Use it to receive a serve or a hard spike.
  • Set: Q. Use it to pass the ball up for a teammate.
  • Dive: Ctrl. Use it to reach balls that are far away on the ground.
  • Spike: left click while you are in the air.
  • Block: Q while you are in the air, at the net.
  • Jump set: E in the air, according to the wiki. Console players do not have a jump set key listed.

On console the bump and spike are on RT, set and block are on LT, and dive is X. If a key in the game menu looks different after an update, trust the in-game menu.

A small trick from the wiki: if you play the setter role, you can hold a direction key (W, A, S or D on PC) while you jump set. This is called a tilt set, and it sends the ball along the court so your spiker can reach it.

How to serve

The game's own description explains serving in three steps:

  1. When it is your turn, click the screen (RT on console).
  2. Click again to choose how much power you want.
  3. You can jump and spike the serve, and tilt to change where it goes. You can also let the ball drop and bump it in.

A bump serve is the safer choice while you learn. A spike serve gives more pressure but is easier to miss.

Styles and Abilities: the two spin systems

Two systems change how you play: Styles and Abilities. A Style gives you a different spread of stats such as serve power, block strength, set speed, jump height and spike power. An Ability is a special skill, and some are passive.

You get new ones by spinning. According to the wiki, a normal Ability Spin costs 250 Yen. Lucky Ability Spins and Lucky Style Spins have better odds for rare results, and you can get them from the Season Pass, from codes, from other players as gifts, or with real money. Spending real money is optional, and you should ask a parent or guardian first if you are young.

Every Ability must charge before use. You charge it by touching the ball or by scoring a point after having the last touch. It also fills slowly on its own, but the wiki says that is far too slow to depend on, so stay active on the court.

Some useful Abilities the wiki describes:

  • Boom Jump (Rare): a very high fixed jump that helps you spike over blockers.
  • Moonball (Rare): your next bump flies high over the net and lands near the back line. It is best on a third touch when the ball is too low to spike.
  • Curve Spike (Godly): your next spike or serve curves in the direction you tilt. The wiki suggests it is strong on serves because opponents cannot see your tilt.
  • Team Spirit (Common): a speed boost for your whole team for 5 seconds. The wiki notes it can ruin a teammate's spike or serve if you use it at the wrong time.

There is a pity system too. The wiki says every 50 Ability Spins you get a guaranteed Legendary or Godly result, and a Secret Ability is guaranteed every 200 Lucky Ability Spins.

Free Yen from the AFK Lobby

Yen is the main currency. You earn it from matches, and you can also use the AFK Lobby, which you reach from the Play menu by scrolling down. It has no level requirement, and every 2 minutes you can get a reward. According to the wiki, the most common reward is 20 Yen, with 40 and 60 Yen less often. It is a slow but safe way to save toward spins and packs while you are away from the keyboard.

Ranked and codes at level 15

Ranked opens at level 15. You pick a mode, such as 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 or 6v6, and play 5 games to get your first rank. Ranks run from Bronze up to Diamond, then Pro and the Champion League. Leaving a ranked match early costs you 50 Elo, so finish your games. Ranks reset every season. The wiki also says that playing 2v2 or larger modes with friends is more reliable than solo queueing.

Level 15 is also needed to redeem codes, which you do from the Shop, then the Codes tab. See the Volleyball Legends codes page for the codes we have checked.

Quick checklist

  • Learn bump, set and dive before anything else.
  • Practice serving with bumps, then try spike serves.
  • Visit the AFK Lobby when you need a break.
  • Reach level 15 for Ranked and codes.
  • Use Abilities on purpose: Boom Jump for spikes, Moonball for third touches.
