Steal An Egg Beginner Guide: What to Do First

A friendly starter guide for Steal An Egg: the core loop, the free speed bonus, where to steal first, and what to spend your first cash on.

Just joined Steal An Egg? After this guide you will know the basic loop, how to grab free speed on day one, which area to start in, and what to buy first. Details are checked against two guides that were updated in late summer and October 2026, so some numbers may shift after future updates.

How the game works

The whole game is one repeating loop:

  1. Steal an egg from a nest in one of the map's areas (called biomes).
  2. Outrun the guardian, the monster that sleeps near the nests, and carry the egg to your pen.
  3. Wait for the egg to grow and hatch into a pet.
  4. Your pet earns cash every second, and the hatch itself gives you a one-time reward of cash and Speed.
  5. Spend cash on things that make you faster, then reach the next biome and repeat.

Speed is the number that matters most. It decides which biomes you can enter and whether you can escape a guardian while carrying an egg.

Claim the free speed first

Open the free rewards section and like the game, favorite it, and join the community group. Doing all three gives you 10,000 Speed for free, according to both guides we read. That is already more than the 900 Speed that the second biome asks for, so it is the best thing you can do in your first minute.

Also look at the pet index on the left side of the screen. Each pet you discover for the first time has a free reward waiting, so check it every now and then.

Start in the Forest

The Forest has no Speed requirement and its guardian is the Chicken. Both guides say beginners should begin here and only move outward as their Speed grows. The Forest has eight eggs. As listed by RBLXGUIDE, the pets go from a Chicken that earns 1 cash per second and grows in 10 seconds, up to Brr Brr Patapim, a Legendary that earns 1,800 per second but takes 5 minutes to grow.

Good habits for stealing:

  • Look at your full route home before you grab an egg. Guardians chase hard.
  • Bigger eggs are worth more, but they are heavier and slow you down. Start with small ones.
  • Nests reset every 5 minutes, so if you miss an egg, another will appear soon.
  • Egg color does not change how much money a pet makes.

Bear traps

You can place bear traps while you are holding an egg. A trapped player is stuck for 7 seconds, and up to 3 traps can be on the map at once. You get a trap back when it goes off or when you pick it up, and you cannot place one in the safe zone. These details come from RBLXGUIDE, while TechWiser notes that traps are limited early on, so expect your own game to feel more limited at the start.

What to buy first

Cash mostly buys Speed, then more room for pets. Here is a sensible early order:

  1. Get the treadmill started. TechWiser says it becomes available when you spend 1,000 cash on a garden upgrade, and then you can walk or stay AFK on it to gain Speed over time.
  2. Buy the cheapest trail. RBLXGUIDE lists the Grey Trail at 100 cash for a 1.5 times Speed multiplier, and the Green Trail at 5,000 cash for 2 times.
  3. Next, look at the Sci-Fi Treadmill at 15,000 cash, which gives 5 Speed per step instead of 2.
  4. Upgrade your pen so more pets can sit and earn at once.

Trails are bought in the Trail Shop and then give a direct speed boost. Make sure you actually equip what you buy.

Fill your garden early

Pets are your main income. TechWiser suggests filling the garden with common pets rather than waiting for a rare one, because many small earners add up. Pets of the same kind can earn different amounts depending on size and mutation, so compare before you replace one.

The Fuse Machine lets you combine three of the same pet into one higher-rarity version that earns more than the three did before. It is worth trying once you have spare duplicates.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping the free rewards. That 10,000 Speed is a huge head start.
  • Running into a new biome just because you meet the minimum Speed. Being barely fast enough is risky with a heavy egg.
  • Mixing up games. There is a different Roblox game called Jump To Steal An Egg with other mechanics, so check the game name before following a tip.
  • Spending real money. Robux items exist, but you do not need them to make progress, and they cost real money, so ask a parent first.

Quick checklist

  • Like, favorite and join the group for 10,000 Speed.
  • Start in the Forest and steal small eggs.
  • Buy a trail, start the treadmill, then upgrade your pen.
  • Check the pet index for free rewards.
