Roblox BedWars Beginner Guide: Bed Defense, Resources and Team Upgrades

How to survive your first BedWars matches: protect your bed, spend iron and diamonds well, pick the free Marcel kit and buy team upgrades in a sensible order.

BedWars can feel confusing at first because it has no long tutorial, and you can lose your whole run in the first two minutes. This guide covers what to do in the first minutes of a match, how the resources work, which kit suits a beginner and what the team upgrade menu offers. Costs come from a guide published in 2025, so check the in-game shop before you plan around exact numbers.

The basic rules

The official game page sums up BedWars in four points: press Play in the lobby, protect your bed, gather resources to buy items and team upgrades, and destroy enemy beds while eliminating players. Once your bed is gone you can no longer respawn, so a death after that is final. Modes include Solo, Duo and Squad, plus ranked and a lucky block mode, according to Pro Game Guides.

Default PC controls from the game page: Shift sprints, E opens your inventory, H drops an item, G pings, Tab shows the scoreboard and T opens the emote wheel. All hotkeys can be changed in settings.

Resources and what they buy

Your base generator produces iron, which pays for simple items such as swords. Diamonds and emeralds spawn at generators out on the map. Pro Game Guides says diamonds pay for team upgrades and emeralds can be traded for powerful weapons. That means leaving your island matters: a team that never contests the diamond and emerald generators falls behind in gear.

A simple order of purchases for a beginner:

  1. Blocks to cover your bed.
  2. An iron sword for close fights.
  3. A bow if you want to hit enemies at range.
  4. Armor upgrades as your resources allow.

Protect your bed first

Pro Game Guides recommends starting with cheap blocks around the bed and upgrading to stronger ones later, such as obsidian. At the start of a match, watch the islands next to yours. If someone rushes your base, fight them there and try to knock them off. In Duo or Squad, leave at least one teammate home while the others raid. In Solo, wait for an opponent to make a mistake rather than running off with an open bed. Another tip from the same guide: always look to third party a fight near your base, because joining a fight that two others are already having gives you a better chance of winning.

Pick the Marcel kit

Kits give you a role and special items. Three kits are free for everybody: Marcel, Ragnar and Isabel. Deltia's Gaming calls Marcel very beginner friendly. It is a Defender kit with a Defense Scanner that shows a bed defense layout over your bed so you can fortify it quickly. While using the scanner, stone costs 2 iron and ceramic costs 4 iron. The kit also gives a discount on all blocks except obsidian and lets you place tesla coil traps.

To equip it, open the Kits button in the lobby, find the kit in the shop and press the green Equip button. Purchases in the game cost real money, and you never need one to start, so learn the free kits first.

Team upgrades

Team upgrades are bought with diamonds and help your whole team. Deltia's Gaming lists these, with costs as of 2025:

  • Team Generator: faster base resource spawns, in three tiers costing 4, 8 and 16 diamonds (28 in total). It is risky in Solo if your base is undefended.
  • Armor Protection: reduces damage taken by 20, 40 and 60 percent over three tiers costing 4, 8 and 20 diamonds.
  • Damage: raises weapon damage by 20, 30 and 40 percent for 5, 10 and 18 diamonds.
  • Diamond Generator: speeds up diamond spawns, for 4, 8 and 12 diamonds.

If you are under attack, the same advice applies as always: spend on blocks or a sword first and upgrades second.

Beginner checklist

  1. Cover your bed before you leave your island.
  2. Buy a sword, then armor.
  3. Equip Marcel and learn it fully instead of switching kits every match.
  4. Use ping with teammates in Duo and Squad.
  5. Grab diamonds and emeralds once your bed is safe.

The game page also says updates arrive every Friday at 3:00 pm Pacific time, so features may change.
