Huss Valley beginner guide: controls, movement, gems and first abilities

Learn how a Huss Valley round works, how the momentum movement and sideways dash feel, and which abilities to buy first as Runner or Chaser.

After reading this you will know how a round of Huss Valley is won, how to control the unusual movement, and what to spend your first Gems and Coins on. Everything below reflects guides published in early October 2026, so ability costs may change in later updates.

How a round works

Every match picks one random player as the Chaser. Everybody else is a Runner. The arena is a rectangle with a start line at one end and a finish line at the other.

  • Runners win by crossing to the finish line three times without anyone being caught.
  • The Chaser wins by converting every Runner. One knife hit downs a Runner, and a Runner who is tagged becomes an extra Chaser for the next round.
  • Each round one random Runner is asked to pick Hero or Chicken. Hero means crossing alone for a bonus reward with high risk. Chicken means no bonus, but you stay safe with the group.

Early on you will get caught a lot. That is normal. Treat the first matches as practice for reading how the Chaser moves.

Controls and the momentum movement

| Action | Key | |---|---| | Move | W, A, S, D | | Sideways dash | Spacebar while holding A or D | | Instant stop | Alt | | Interact (revive a teammate) | E |

Movement here is not the usual instant Roblox walk. You build speed slowly from a standstill and you keep sliding a little after you let go of a key. Because of that, a plain straight sprint is easy to predict and easy to intercept.

The dash only goes left or right. There is no forward or backward dash, so do not waste time hammering Spacebar while running straight. The best habit to build is mixing dashes with the Alt stop: dash one way, stop dead, then dash the other way. A Chaser who aimed at where you were going will miss.

Gems and Coins: what each one buys

  • Gems come from your end-of-match performance and from pickups on the arena floor during a round. They buy permanent abilities.
  • Coins come only from end-of-match performance, you cannot pick them up mid-round. They buy consumables, which last for one match, and you can only equip one consumable at a time.

Collect floor Gems on your first crossing, when the Chaser is usually outnumbered and busy.

Which abilities to buy first

Costs listed by the guides:

Runner abilities - Cloak, 1000 Gems: you are invisible for 3 seconds, but you can still be hit. Both guides treat it as the strongest Runner pick. - Pocket Door, 400 Gems: a temporary door blocks the Chaser for 6 seconds. It is the cheapest, so it is a sensible first buy. - Emergency Airhorn, 1000 Gems: a short-range blast that knocks the Chaser back. Ranked lowest.

Chaser abilities - Rufus's Leash, 1200 Gems: pulls a Runner up to 6 studs toward you. Ranked best. - Big Dagger, 900 Gems: doubles your melee range for your next hit, for 5 seconds. - Rocket Shoes, 850 Gems: a dash from a standstill in your movement or camera direction.

Since you start most games as a Runner, save for Pocket Door first, then Cloak.

Consumables worth knowing

  • Banana Peel (Chaser): trips a Runner who touches it.
  • Rescue Kit (Runner): revives you once after a knife hit so you stay on the Runner team.
  • Adrenaline (Runner): better acceleration and cornering for 5 seconds.

The guides do not list consumable prices, so check the in-game shop for the current cost.

Tips for Runners

  1. Stay near other Runners. A bigger group spreads the Chaser's attention.
  2. Revive a downed teammate with E before they are converted.
  3. Do not treat Cloak as full protection, a hit still lands.
  4. Vary your path every crossing.

Tips for Chasers

  1. Aim ahead of the Runner. Momentum means they will have moved by the time your hit lands.
  2. Go for groups, because one swing can connect with more targets.
  3. Put Banana Peels on common running paths, not at random.

Free boosts from codes

Codes give short Coin or Gem boosts that help you save faster. Check the Huss Valley codes page for the ones we have verified. Codes are case sensitive, so type them exactly.

Common mistakes

  • Sprinting in a straight line to the finish.
  • Trying to dash forward or backward.
  • Aiming where the Runner is now instead of where they are heading.
  • Spending Gems on the Emergency Airhorn before Pocket Door or Cloak.

If you play Huss Valley with friends, call out when you are crossing together. Stacking Runners is the easiest way to win rounds while you are still learning.
