How to Win in Murder Mystery 2 as Murderer, Sheriff and Innocent

Role-by-role strategy for Murder Mystery 2: how to stay alive as an Innocent, when to strike as Murderer, and how a Sheriff should wait for the right shot.

Want to win more rounds of Murder Mystery 2? This guide gives one plan for each role, so whatever you are given, you know what to do. The tips come from beginner guides by TheGamer and Pocket Gamer. The Pocket Gamer article is from 2021, so we only use advice that still matches how the game is described today. Details are as of October 2026.

The goal of each role

Murder Mystery 2 is a hide and seek style round with a secret killer. The Murderer wants to eliminate everyone. The Sheriff, the only player with a gun, and the Innocents want to stop the Murderer. Every plan below follows from that.

How to win as an Innocent

Innocents are the most common role, and staying alive is the whole job.

  1. At the start of the round, move around a little, because the Murderer may be close.
  2. Pick a hiding spot with a way out. Avoid dead ends and narrow corridors.
  3. Stay still for a short time, then move again. Running around all the time makes it easier to bump into the Murderer.
  4. Stay close to players who act normally, but keep away from large groups.
  5. When chased, change direction often and put walls between you and the Murderer. Use open space to dodge thrown knives.

Spot suspects by behavior. Players who move erratically, wait in corners or avoid coins are worth watching. Collect coins when it is safe.

If the Sheriff goes down, the gun drops. Check the game chat to see where. If the Murderer is waiting near it, skip it and collect coins instead.

How to win as the Murderer

You have melee attacks and a throwable knife. Being patient pays off more than rushing.

  • Do not attack the first player you see. Act normal for a few seconds first.
  • Use the map. Know the shortcuts and the places where players like to hide.
  • Close the distance or trap players in dead ends. Players stuck in a narrow corridor are easy targets.
  • Stay mobile. A Murderer who keeps moving keeps everyone nervous, and an Innocent who is nervous makes mistakes.
  • Keep an eye out for the Sheriff, who is hunting you. Do not run straight at a player you think has the gun.
  • Watch the clock. If time runs out, the Innocents win, so do not hide for too long.
  • You can lie in wait in a good spot, because some Innocents will walk straight into you.

How to win as the Sheriff

Your gun is your only tool, so make each shot count.

  • Pick a spot with good visibility, but do not stay in one place for long.
  • Some Sheriffs show their gun early to gain trust. That can help, but it also tells the Murderer who to avoid or hunt.
  • Do not take the gun out until you are sure who the Murderer is. A mistake can cost the round for everyone.
  • Stay near other players without sitting in the middle of a crowd, so you can see an attack happen.
  • If you are eliminated, the gun drops. Another player can pick it up and carry on.

Maps that help your plan

TheGamer lists Bank 2, Hotel, Workplace and Factory as maps with good mobility, which suits Innocents who need to run and Sheriffs who need to reposition. It says Mansion 2 and House 2 have fewer escape routes, so a Murderer has an easier time there. Map choices can change over time.

Abilities worth knowing

TheGamer recommends X-Ray Vision (see through walls, 30-second cooldown), Speed Boost, and Invisibility for beginners. These are bought in the shop with coins or gems. Gems cost real money, so ask a parent before buying anything. You can win rounds with good habits and no purchases at all.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Running around the whole map as an Innocent
  • Hiding in a dead end
  • Stabbing the first player you see as Murderer
  • Pulling the gun out as Sheriff before you are sure
  • Trusting trade offers that say you will be paid later

Next steps

Try one new habit per match. Pick a role plan above, watch what happens, and adjust. Over a few rounds you will start to notice how other players move.
