How to Show FPS on Roblox: Shortcuts for PC, Mac and Mobile
Step by step: how to open the Roblox debug stats and Performance Stats overlays to check your FPS, memory and ping, plus the default frame cap.
If a game feels choppy, the first thing to find out is your frame rate, or FPS (frames per second). Roblox has built-in overlays that show it, so you do not need any extra program. After reading this guide you will know which shortcut opens each overlay on Windows and Mac, how to open the Performance Stats view from the settings menu, and what the default frame cap is.
The quick way: Shift+F5
Join any experience on a computer, then press Shift+F5. Roblox's own Creator Docs say this shows the debug stats summary in the client. That overlay covers frame rate along with other technical readouts.
On a Mac, the Creator Docs list the same family of shortcuts with the Command key instead of Ctrl, for example Shift+Cmd+F5. Some Mac keyboards also need the Fn key held down for function keys, so if nothing happens try Fn+Shift+F5. A community list on the Roblox Developer Forum shows the Fn version for each menu.
Press the same shortcut again to hide the overlay.
Other debug stats overlays
Roblox has five debug stats shortcuts, Shift+F1 to Shift+F5. The Creator Docs say these overlays cover graphics, physics, network traffic and FPS. The community keybind list describes them like this:
- Shift+F1: game stats
- Shift+F2: graphics stats (it shows things like the lighting technology and draw calls)
- Shift+F3: network stats
- Shift+F4: physics stats
- Shift+F5: summary stats
The Creator Docs also give a longer version of these shortcuts, written as Shift+Ctrl+F1 to Shift+Ctrl+F5 (Shift+Cmd on Mac). If the short version does nothing on your setup, try the long one.
The Developer Forum author warns that on macOS and on mobile the data in these menus can be different from what you see on Windows. Treat the numbers as a rough guide, not an exact benchmark.
Performance Stats from the settings menu
The Creator Docs also describe a Performance Stats view that you can turn on from the settings menu in the client. It shows an overlay with the memory used by the client.
- Join an experience.
- Open the Roblox menu.
- Go to Settings.
- Switch on Performance Stats if your client shows the option.
The menu wording can change when Roblox updates the app, so look for the closest match if your screen is a little different.
There is also a Performance Stats toolbar. In an experience, press Ctrl+Alt+F7 (Cmd+Option+F7 on Mac). According to the Creator Docs it shows memory, CPU, GPU, network data sent and received, and ping. Ping is useful when the problem is lag rather than low FPS.
What FPS should you expect?
The Creator Docs state that the default client frame rate cap is 60 FPS, and that players on Windows can raise the cap up to 240 FPS. So seeing 60 is normal, not a problem. Whether you can reach a higher cap depends on your computer, and the experience itself also matters, since a busy server with many players and objects is harder to run.
If your number is far below 60, try these simple steps:
- Close other programs and browser tabs while you play.
- Lower the graphics quality in the Roblox settings menu.
- Check ping with the Performance Stats toolbar, because high ping feels like lag even when FPS is fine.
- Test a different experience. If only one game is slow, the cause is likely the game and not your device.
Studio versus the real client
If you ever build your own experience, remember that Roblox Studio has its own stats under Window, then Performance, and that the Creator Docs say Studio itself skews performance numbers. For an accurate frame rate, check in the normal Roblox client, not inside Studio.
Quick checklist
- Join an experience on PC or Mac.
- Press Shift+F5 (or Shift+Cmd+F5 on Mac) for the summary overlay.
- Open Performance Stats from Settings, or press Ctrl+Alt+F7, for memory and ping.
- Compare your FPS to the 60 FPS default cap.
- Press the shortcut again to hide the overlay.
On phones, tablets and consoles these keyboard shortcuts are not available, and the sources we checked do not give a verified mobile route, so use the Performance Stats option in the settings menu if your device shows it.
