How to Link a Parent Account on Roblox: Step-by-Step Setup
How parents link their own Roblox account to a child's account, what you need, and which settings parental controls let you manage.
Roblox lets a parent link their own account to their child's account, so they can look at and change the child's safety settings from their own device. This guide shows the steps, what you need before you start, and what you can manage once the accounts are linked. It is based on Roblox's own pages, and the steps were last checked in October 2026.
What you need before you start
According to Roblox's newsroom guide, you need:
- A valid ID that you can photograph, used to verify your age
- A personal device of your own for creating the parent account
- Your birthdate and your email address
Roblox uses the ID check to confirm the age of the parent. Only use the official Roblox app or website for this. Never share your password or your child's password with anyone, and never send ID photos to anyone who contacts you outside the official Roblox flow.
How to link the accounts from your child's device
The newsroom guide describes this order:
- On your child's device, open Roblox settings and go to parental controls.
- Enter your email to start linking to your child's account.
- Create an account on your own device.
- Enter your birthdate.
- Take a photo of your ID to verify your age.
- Confirm that you match the ID.
- Link your account to your child's.
- Manage your child's settings from your own device.
The same process from the child's side
The Roblox Parental Controls page describes the email method like this. Your child logs into their own account, goes to Settings, and opens the "Parental controls" tab. They then select "Add parent" and type the email address that belongs to the parent's account. The parent receives an email with instructions to finish the link.
Because the child starts this, it is easy to do together at the kitchen table. Use an email address you really check, since the instructions arrive there.
What parents can manage
The Roblox Parental Controls page groups the options into four areas:
- Content: choose the content maturity level for your child's account.
- Chat and connections: manage how your child communicates on the platform and review who they are connecting with.
- Screen time: monitor and manage how much time your child spends on the platform.
- Spending: set monthly spending limits and turn on notifications to keep an eye on spending.
Spending matters because Robux and many in-game items cost real money. A monthly limit is a good way to avoid surprise purchases.
The same page says that in most regions parents can manage all settings through the age of 12. After that, some settings are shared with the teen, so check which options your own app shows, since it can depend on your child's age and where you live.
Tips for a smooth setup
- Do the setup together and explain what you can see and why.
- Have your ID and your own device ready before you begin, so the age check is not interrupted half way.
- If the screens look different from this guide, follow what the Roblox app shows. Menu names can change with updates, and the Roblox Help Center is the place to check the latest wording.
- Talk about chat and friends too. Settings help, but a conversation helps more.
Quick checklist
- Gather your ID, your own device, your birthdate and your email.
- Open Settings, then Parental controls, on the child's account.
- Add your email with "Add parent".
- Finish the age check on your own device.
- Review content maturity, chat, screen time and spending limits.
