Heavyweight Fishing beginner guide: reeling, bait, first rod and skills

How fishing works in Heavyweight Fishing, which vendor does what, what bait and rods to save for, and a hidden cave with the Blazeshark Rod.

After this guide you will know how a catch works in Heavyweight Fishing, who to visit in the village for what, and what to save your first Cash for. The facts come from guides dated late August 2026, so prices and rod rankings can change with updates. If the in-game shop shows a different price, trust the game.

How catching a fish works

You cast your line, then you use your active skills to drain the fish's HP bar. When the fish is weak enough, you reel it in. Reeling is a timing minigame, and the habit that matters most is keeping the catch out of the red zone. Practice that before you chase anything else. After the catch, sell it to the fish buyer for Cash and spend the Cash on better gear.

The early game is slow because you start with weak gear and a short list of fish. That is normal.

Who sells what

The village has several characters, and it helps to know them early:

  • Nana buys your fish for Cash.
  • Biao Di sells rods.
  • Bai Chang sells bait.
  • Nanjiang puts traits on your skills, using StarRerolls.
  • A Merchant sells orbs.
  • Old Jiang gives quests.

Skills are sold by a separate skill vendor, but guides spell that name in different ways, so look for the skill shop in the village instead of searching for a name.

Bait and Luck

Bait raises your Luck, which improves the odds of rarer fish. Better bait costs more. The guide gives Basic Bait at 100 Cash for a 5 percent Luck bonus, and Ancestral Bait at 100,000 Cash for 20 percent. Buy the next tier up whenever you can afford it without delaying a rod.

Rods: what to aim for

A rod sets two things: Power, which is how fast you drain the fish's HP, and Luck. Your first real target is the Enchanted Steel Rod at 2,000 Cash.

Later options named by the guides:

  • Blazeshark Rod: 35 Crystals, sold in a hidden cave (directions below).
  • Cryo Gravity Rod: a strong mid-game choice for farming Cash while you save for something bigger.
  • Heavenpiercer Rod and Pure Diamond Rod: named the strongest rods right now by two sites. Sacred Bamboo, Pure Diamond and Heavenpiercer are crafted rather than bought.

Skills worth buying early

Because you drain HP with skills, they matter as much as the rod. The cheap picks listed for beginners are Skyfall Stomp, Reel Sprint (helps with reel control) and Dragon-Fish (catch power). The same guides call Phoenix Strike Art the best pick for damage against bosses and One-Strike Heaven Gate a good finisher for heavy catches, but both cost much more, so treat them as goals.

Rarer skills come from the Taiji and Egoless summon banners, which guarantee a rare skill at 30, 120 and 1,000 summons.

Do not rush to use rerolls. Save Trait Crystals and Trait Rerolls until you own a skill that is worth putting a trait on. The three top traits, Vermillion Bird, White Tiger and Black Tortoise, each have only a 0.1 percent reroll chance.

The hidden cave and the Blazeshark Rod

  1. Go to the rocky cliffs behind the main village.
  2. Climb the grassy ledges up to the cave behind the waterfall.
  3. Walk through the illusionary stone wall inside the cave.
  4. The Blazeshark Rod is sold there for 35 Crystals, and a character called The Shadow is nearby.

The Shadow can level up a character you have equipped, but you must make two sacrifice choices, such as losing levels, Cash, Crystals or Tickets. Read each offer before you accept.

Orbs, for later

Orbs cost 1,000,000 Cash each and boost one thing: Cash (higher sell prices), Drop (more boss skill drops), Damage, or Cooldown. They are a late goal, not a first purchase.

Beginner checklist

  1. Learn to keep the catch out of the red zone.
  2. Save for the Enchanted Steel Rod and a better bait.
  3. Buy one cheap reel-control skill and one damage skill.
  4. Move to a mid-game rod like Cryo Gravity to farm Cash.
  5. Hold your rerolls until a skill deserves them.

You can also fish together with another player on the docks, which is a relaxed way to learn. Game codes exist but many need high levels and lists disagree, so we only list codes once their rewards are confirmed.
