Grow a Garden Beginner Guide: Seeds, Selling and Early Upgrades
Learn how the Grow a Garden seed shop restocks, which cheap seeds to plant first, how to sell for the most sheckles, and when to buy a watering can or sprinkler.
After reading this you will know how a round of Grow a Garden works from the first seed to your first upgrades: where seeds come from, what to plant while you have almost no money, how selling works, and which gear is worth saving for. Prices and stock chances change with updates, so treat the numbers below as correct for October 2026 and check them in the shop before you spend.
How the basic loop works
The game's own description sums it up: buy seeds when the shop restocks, plant them on your brown plots, wait for them to grow, harvest, and sell the fruit. To plant, equip a seed from your hotbar and click (or tap) a brown plot on your farm. Your garden also keeps growing while you are offline, so a short session before you leave is never wasted.
The currency is sheckles. You get them by selling harvested crops, and you spend them on more seeds, gear and pets.
The seed shop and its restock timer
Seeds are sold by an NPC at the Seed Shop (the wiki calls it Sam's Shop). The shop works on a stock system, which means not every seed is always on offer. The main stock refreshes every 5 minutes, and the stock is the same for everyone in every server. Rarer seeds have a lower chance of showing up, so the best ones appear only now and then.
Four seeds are always in stock, which is what makes the first minutes easy:
- Carrot: 10 sheckles. It gives a single harvest, then the plant is gone.
- Strawberry: 50 sheckles. A multi-harvest plant, so it keeps producing after you pick fruit.
- Blueberry: 400 sheckles. Also multi-harvest.
- Tomato: 800 sheckles. Also multi-harvest.
Other early seeds such as Buttercup (600) and Corn (1,300) only show up on some restocks, according to the wiki's stock table. If the shop button is grey and says "NO STOCK", wait for the next restock. The shop also sells an instant restock for real money (79 Robux), which you never need. Waiting five minutes is free, and Robux purchases cost real money.
What to plant first
With a few sheckles, start with Carrots and Strawberries. Carrots are cheap enough to replant over and over. Strawberries cost more but keep giving fruit, so they are the better pick as soon as you can afford a few. When money builds up, move to Blueberries and Tomatoes, which are also multi-harvest. A sensible pattern:
- Buy a handful of Carrots and plant them to get your first sheckles.
- Switch to Strawberries and fill your plots.
- Add Blueberries, then Tomatoes, as soon as selling covers the cost.
- Whenever a rarer seed appears and you can afford it, buy it instead of more cheap seeds.
Fruits with mutations sell for more than normal ones, and a Gold or Rainbow variant raises the base value. Weather events can add mutations to your crops, for example Wet from rain, Chilled from frost or Moonlit at night, each worth double the normal price according to the wiki's mutation table. If an event starts, stay in the game and keep your plants growing.
How to sell without losing your best fruit
Selling is done at the Sell Stuff stand (Steven's stand). Press the Sell button at the top of the screen to teleport there. Steven gives you three useful options:
- Sell my inventory: sells every crop you carry, except favorited ones.
- Sell this: sells only the item in your hand.
- How much is this worth?: tells you the value without selling.
Use the worth check on anything that looks special. To protect a fruit, favorite it: right click it on PC, or tap and hold on mobile. Favorited items are skipped by "sell all", so you will not sell a great mutation by accident.
One more small bonus from the in-game tips: each friend in your server adds an extra 10 percent sheckles, so playing with friends pays off.
Your first upgrades
Do not buy gear before you have a steady income. Once you do, two items stand out in the gear shop:
- Watering Can: 50,000 sheckles. It speeds up crop growth.
- Basic Sprinkler: 25,000 sheckles. It boosts the size of nearby plants for 5 minutes. Gear stock also rotates, and the wiki gives the Basic Sprinkler about a 33 percent chance to appear in a restock.
Bigger sprinklers cost more, last longer or reach farther, but they are late-game purchases. Place a sprinkler among your most valuable crops, because a bigger fruit sells for more.
Common beginner mistakes
- Spending every sheckle on gear while your plots sit empty.
- Pressing "sell all" with a Gold or mutated fruit in your inventory and no favorite set.
- Waiting at the shop for a rare seed instead of replanting and selling in between restocks.
- Buying Robux restocks or packs. They cost real money and are never required.
Short checklist
- Always have every plot planted.
- Check the shop every 5 minutes for new seeds.
- Favorite your best fruit before you sell.
- Buy a Watering Can, then a Basic Sprinkler, once income is steady.
