Fish It Beginner Guide: What to Do First and How to Earn Coins

New to Fish It? Learn how casting works, how to sell your catch, which free rods to grab early, and the order to upgrade in without wasting coins.

This guide helps you play your first hour of Fish It smoothly: how to fish, how to earn your first coins, and which free rods to pick up before you spend anything. Fish It is updated very often, so prices and island names can change. The numbers here come from guides updated in 2026, and you should double check any price in the shop before buying.

How fishing works

The game's Roblox page explains the controls in two lines: click to charge up your cast, then click as fast as you can to reel in the fish. That is the whole minigame. Roonby's beginner guide adds that you should aim for a "Good Cast", which helps your catch rate, and that a yellow arrow points you to the green fishing area. When you are not sure where to stand, follow the arrow.

Sell fish for your first coins

After you catch a few fish, walk to the vendor and sell them. That is your first source of coins. Two small habits help:

  • Look at what a fish is worth before selling, especially rare ones such as Mythic fish.
  • Sell before you head off to do something else, so you do not lose your catch.

NPCs on the islands also give quests that pay coins and experience, so say hello to them while you play.

Grab the free rods first

You start with the Starter Rod, which has no bonuses and holds only 10 kg. Before spending coins, check these free options listed on Bloxodes:

  • Toy Rod: free. You need to like the game on Roblox and join the Fish Atelier group. It is a small step up from the Starter Rod.
  • Lava Rod: free. Go to Kohana Volcano and talk to the Lava Fisherman NPC. It carries up to 100 kg, much more than the cheap shop rods. Rosenberry Rooms and Gamezebo both advise taking it early to save coins.

Joining a group and liking a game are free and take seconds. Never pay for anything to get these.

Your first shop rods

The shop sells these low-price rods, based on the September 2026 Bloxodes list:

| Rod | Price | Max weight | |---|---|---| | Luck Rod | 250 | 15 kg | | Carbon Rod | 900 | 20 kg | | Grass Rod | 1,500 | 250 kg | | Damascus Rod | 3,000 | 400 kg | | Ice Rod | 5,000 | 750 kg |

Older guides quote different prices for some of these, which is why checking in the shop matters. The Luck Rod and Carbon Rod are cheap but weak, and Bloxodes notes the Luck Rod is only useful until you get the Lava Rod or a stronger rod. The Grass, Damascus and Ice Rods hold much heavier fish, which is the reason to save a little longer.

What to buy as you grow

Rosenberry Rooms says the rod shops are split by island. Fisherman Island sells common to rare rods, Kohana sells uncommon to epic rods, and Tropical Grove sells legendary and mythic rods. Here is a sensible order from their advice and Bloxodes prices:

  1. Free Lava Rod from Kohana Volcano.
  2. Lucky Rod at 10,000 coins, a Rare rod with a big jump in luck.
  3. Midnight Rod at 50,000 coins as a mid-game choice.
  4. Steampunk Rod at 215,000 coins, then Chrome Rod at 437,000 coins.
  5. Astral Rod at 1,000,000 coins, the strongest shop rod in several guides, though one notes it has been weakened in updates.

The Rosenberry Rooms author ranks the Midnight Rod low for its stats, so consider skipping straight to the Steampunk Rod if you can wait.

Extra things to learn later

  • Enchanting: Roonby explains that you use an Enchant Stone at the Enchant Station in the Esoteric Depths. Results are luck-based, so do not waste all your stones on a rod you will replace soon.
  • Travel: boats and gear unlock new places. Roonby's 2025 guide mentions a Small Boat, an elevator access pass and scuba gear for the Lost Isle, but the prices it lists are from 2025, so check them in game.
  • Events: special events and limited fish appear during admin events, so look at the game's description for new updates.

Beginner checklist

  • Learn the charge-and-click minigame and follow the arrow to fishing spots.
  • Sell fish at the vendor and do NPC quests.
  • Claim the Toy Rod and the Lava Rod for free.
  • Save for a heavier rod before buying small upgrades.
  • Check prices in game, because updates change them.
