Blox Fruits Beginner Guide: What to Do First in the First Sea
Brand new to Blox Fruits? Learn how to pick a side, spend stat points, fight, sail and get ready for the Second Sea, step by step.
Starting Blox Fruits for the first time can feel confusing, because you spawn with almost nothing and the map is huge. This guide gives you a simple plan for your first hours: pick a side, learn the controls, spend your stat points wisely, find your first fruit and get ready for the next sea.
Pick your side and start questing
When you join, you choose between the Marines and the Pirates. This decides which starter island you spawn on, either the Marine Starter Island or the Pirate Starter Island. Both islands have signs that explain dashing and sprinting, plus weak enemies that are easy to fight while you learn.
Next, find the quest giver on your island. Pirates talk to the Bandit Quest Giver and Marines talk to the Marine Leader. Accept the quest, defeat the enemies it asks for, then go back to the quest giver and take it again. Quests are your main source of experience (EXP) and money early on, so repeating them is the normal way to level.
A quick controls list, based on the beginner guide from KeenGamer (written in 2024, so check the in-game prompts if a key looks different on your device):
- Press 1 to use melee and click or tap enemies to attack.
- Press Q to dash. Dash is the free starting ability.
- Open Menu, then Items, to equip weapons, then use the number shown at the bottom of the screen to switch between them.
- Weapons have special moves on Z, X, C and V. Many of them need weapon mastery, which goes up as you defeat enemies.
When you want to stop playing, press Esc and choose Leave so your progress saves properly.
How to spend your stat points
Every level you gain gives you 3 stat points. You can put them into five stats, which you find under Menu, then Stats:
- Melee makes fighting styles hit harder and also adds energy.
- Defense adds health.
- Sword boosts sword damage.
- Gun boosts gun damage.
- Blox Fruit boosts fruit damage.
The big rule: spreading points evenly across everything makes you weak at all of it. The wiki explains that you can only max out three of the five stats. A good plan for a beginner is to pick one main way of fighting (fruit, sword or melee), put most points there, and add Defense so you do not fall over after two hits. Keep some points in Melee only if you want extra energy for your moves. You can read the full explanation on the Stats page of the wiki.
Fight smart on the First Sea
The First Sea is made for new players and covers levels 1 to 700. Enemies are weak, very few have Aura, and hunting other players for bounty is not common, so it is a safe place to learn. The wiki notes that higher level players sometimes visit just to cause trouble, so keep that in mind.
Some habits that help:
- Follow the compass. When your level gets high enough for the next island, use the compass Track button to set a marker on it.
- Do not rush into PvP. Player fighting only turns on above level 20, and it will not help you level faster.
- Do not fight bosses face to face. Use walls or pillars so the boss has a hard time hitting you, and use ranged moves.
- Be careful when swimming. Swimming is slow, and the beginner guide notes it drains health while you hold a fruit. Get a boat from the Boat Dealer at the pier instead.
- Learn the movement skills. The Ability Teacher in the Frozen Village cave teaches Flash Step, Aura and Air Jump. They make fights and boss dodging much easier.
Getting your first fruit
Blox Fruits are special powers you get by eating a fruit. You can find them in a few ways, according to the game's Roblox page:
- Fruits spawn around the map every hour and disappear after 20 minutes, so keep an eye out for them.
- The Blox Fruit Dealer sells fruits and restocks random ones every 4 hours.
Fruit prices and rarities change, so check the dealer in game. You do not need a perfect fruit to start. The wiki says elemental fruits such as Light give immunity to most enemies in the First Sea, which makes grinding easier, and Buddha is called one of the best fruits for grinding. Treat those as ideas, not rules, and use whatever you can afford with money you earned in the game.
Remember that Blox Fruits lets you spend real money on extras. You never have to, and you should always ask a parent or guardian before buying anything with Robux.
Common beginner mistakes
- Putting points in all five stats.
- Staying on an island when the compass says you are ready to move on, or rushing ahead to enemies far above your level.
- Swimming between islands instead of using a boat.
- Jumping into player fights before you have learned your moves.
- Quitting by closing the app instead of using Leave.
Your next goal: level 700
The first big milestone is level 700. At that point a message appears telling you to speak to the Military Detective at the Prison, which starts the quest chain that takes you to the Second Sea. The wiki lists the level cap as 3000 today, so there is plenty to grow into after that.
Quick checklist for your first session:
- Pick a side and take the starter quest.
- Learn dash, melee and weapon switching.
- Put your stat points into one main attack stat plus Defense.
- Get a boat and follow the compass to each new island.
- Grab a fruit when you can afford one.
- Aim for level 700 and the Second Sea.
