Piggy Beginner Guide: Controls, Modes, Energy and First Chapters
Learn how Piggy works: the controls, the main modes, how energy and bots behave, why House in Bot mode is a good first map, and habits that help survivors escape.
Piggy is a survival horror game on Roblox where a group of survivors has to find items, solve each map and escape while a Piggy hunts them. After this guide you will know the controls, how a round starts, what energy does and how to practice before you face other players. Details are as of October 2026, and the game gets new chapters and events often.
How a round works
The survivors need to find every item the map asks for and use each one in the right place. Keys open locked doors in order, and the last items open the way out. All the while, Piggy is trying to find and catch you. On some maps, such as Breakout, the way to escape is to defeat Piggy instead.
Piggy can be a player or a bot, depending on the mode. A player Piggy can place traps. Items like a Gun or a Crossbow can stun Piggy for 20 seconds, according to the wiki.
When you press Play, you join the round that is running, or the voting screen if none is. The wiki describes the voting as a 30 second intermission, then 15 seconds to vote for the chapter, then 15 seconds to vote for the mode.
Controls
Both sources agree on the basics:
- Pick up or use an item: click on PC, tap on mobile and Right Trigger on console.
- Crouch: Ctrl on PC (the wiki also lists Shift), and B on an Xbox style controller. Crouching lets you move through vents and tight gaps.
- Traps and abilities: Piggy and traitors use the Q, R and F keys on PC for traps, and survivors use them for abilities.
You can also equip an item by clicking its icon or typing its number on PC.
The main modes
The wiki lists these modes for the main game:
- Bot and Player: the wiki says Piggy can be player-controlled or controlled by the game, depending on the mode.
- Player + Bot is also a listed mode.
- Infection: survivors who are caught become extra Piggies. They cannot place traps.
- Traitor: one survivor secretly tries to kill the others or escape. Nobody knows who it is until they see the traitor kill someone or place a trap.
- Swarm and Tag are the other modes in the list.
Players vote for the mode, and a few modes are only for Build Mode or private servers.
Energy and abilities
Survivors have abilities, and Piggy and traitors have traps. Both are paid for with energy. Your energy fills slowly every second and stops at 10, according to the wiki. Spend it when it helps you, and do not waste it if a better moment is coming. One guide suggests saving energy for the final run to the exit.
How bots behave
Bots are the Piggies controlled by the game. The wiki says that in chapters before Sewers (Chapter 5 of Book 2), the main bot always chases the nearest player. From Sewers on, the main bot patrols, places traps and only chases when it sees you. That means hiding and breaking the line of sight works better on newer maps.
Where to start
Both sources recommend the same thing: start with House in Bot mode. House is the first chapter of Book 1, and Bot mode lets you learn the colors of the items and the order of the doors without a human Piggy. The wiki lists 12 chapters in Book 1, from House to Plant, and 12 in Book 2, from Alleys to Lab, so there is a lot to unlock afterward.
Habits that help you escape
- Call out what you pick up. Say which key or tool you have so your team knows who is carrying what.
- Crouch before vents and tight turns. Bloxodes also advises it for the final route to the exit.
- Pass items to the right teammate. Keys and tools should end up with the person who is closest to the lock.
- Learn the map. Knowing the order of doors and where each item is saves time.
- If you play Piggy, look at forced paths such as doors, machines and exits. They are natural places for traps.
Piggy has paid items, such as tokens and passes. They cost real money, so ask a parent or guardian before buying anything.
Quick checklist
- Learn the click and crouch controls.
- Play House in Bot mode first.
- Watch your energy bar and spend it with a plan.
- Call out items and help your team.
- Check in-game for new chapters and events.
