Chop a Forest Beginner Guide: First Axe, Upgrades and Zones
Learn how Chop a Forest works: the chop and sell loop, what to buy first, how to upgrade your axe, when the Rusty Truck is worth it and how to reach the Birch zone.
Chop a Forest is a Roblox game where you cut down trees, sell the logs and spend the Coins on better tools. After this guide you will know what to buy first, how to upgrade your axe, and when to move on to the next zone. Details are as of October 2026, and prices or zone names can change with updates.
How the game works
The loop is simple. You swing your axe at a tree, collect the logs it drops, carry them to the selling area and sell them for Coins. You then spend the Coins on upgrades and repeat. Both guides we used describe the same loop, and both say that you start with just your hands, which are slow.
There are two currencies:
- Coins: you earn them by selling logs. They pay for axes, backpack upgrades, movement and processing upgrades, and the Rusty Truck.
- Gems: you get them from Daily Rewards. They are used to buy classes.
Claim your Daily Reward every day. It costs nothing, and it is the easiest source of Gems.
What to buy first
- Your first axe. It costs 150 Coins, and both guides agree it chops much faster than bare hands. Do this before anything else.
- A backpack upgrade. A bigger backpack lets you carry more logs per trip, so each trip to the selling area earns more.
- The Rusty Truck. Both guides give a price of 500 Coins. It hauls logs back to base faster than walking, which makes it one of the best early buys.
One guide suggests keeping your backpack roughly level with your axe, so you do not have a strong axe and no space for the logs.
How to upgrade your axe
Your axe has three upgrade paths:
- Sharpness: more chopping power, so trees fall in fewer hits.
- Speed: faster swings.
- Hold: lets you hold the chop button instead of clicking again and again.
The guides do not agree on the exact order, but they agree on the main point: put your points into Sharpness first instead of spreading them evenly. One of them suggests three points in Sharpness, then two in Speed, then one in Hold. Treat that as a starting plan, not a rule.
Other upgrades
- Walk Speed helps you move between trees and the selling area. Buy it gradually, after you have covered your backpack and truck.
- Chipper Speed makes processing at the selling area faster. Buy it when you notice that you are waiting there, not before.
- The Vacuum collects nearby logs for you, so you do not have to walk over each one. Both guides mention it, but neither gives a price.
Zones: from Oak Wood to Birch
You start in Oak Wood. The next area is the Birch Zone, and its trees pay more per log. One guide says it opens after you clear every tree in Oak Wood, and the other says after enough progress, so check the in-game prompt. Do not rush there. Go when you have a strong axe and a backpack that you can fill.
Neither guide names zones after Birch, so we do not list them. Zones can change with updates.
Classes
Classes are bought with Gems and give permanent perks. Choose one that fixes your biggest problem: not enough capacity, slow chopping or slow movement. Do not spend Gems on a class that does not fix a problem you actually have.
Better chopping habits
- Face the tree directly before you swing, because glancing hits do less damage.
- Chop trees that are close together, so the logs land near each other.
- Clear an area, sell, then move on, instead of walking back and forth with a half-empty backpack.
- Stay near your base until your axe and backpack are better.
Quick checklist
- Claim your Daily Reward.
- Buy the 150 Coin axe, then upgrade Sharpness.
- Save for a backpack upgrade and the 500 Coin Rusty Truck.
- Add Walk Speed and Chipper Speed when they solve a real delay.
- Move to Birch when you can carry and chop well.
Never spend real money in a Roblox game without asking a parent or guardian, because Robux costs real money.
