Forsaken Beginner Guide: Generators, Free Survivors and How to Last Longer

How a Forsaken round works for new players: what generators do, which survivors are free, how to stay alive in a chase, and what the Killer is trying to do.

Forsaken is a round-based game where survivors try to outlast one Killer. This guide explains what you are supposed to do in a round, which characters cost nothing, and how to avoid the mistakes new players make. Facts come from the Forsaken wiki (Fandom, CC BY-SA) and a BlueStacks beginner guide from July 2025. Some older guides describe exit gates, but the wiki says generators are now the only public objective, so we follow the wiki. Details are as of October 2026.

How a round works

There are two teams. Survivors complete tasks and try to outlive the Killer until the round clock reaches zero. The Killer must hunt down every survivor before that happens. BlueStacks adds that the Killer has extra speed and vision and builds a Malice meter that unlocks a special power, so a chase gets more dangerous the longer it goes.

According to BlueStacks, survivor abilities are for escaping and helping rather than for damage, although some survivors have tools that stun the Killer for a short time, as covered below.

What generators do

The wiki says generators are the only objective you can do in public games today. Each map has five of them, and repairing them removes time from the round timer. The shorter the timer, the sooner survivors win.

How repairing works: 1. Walk up to a generator from the front, left or right side and interact with it. 2. You get a wire puzzle on a grid, similar to the mobile game Flow Free. Connect matching numbered dots without crossing other wires. You do not need to fill every empty tile. 3. A generator takes several puzzle layers, and each completed layer cuts a few seconds from the clock. 4. Two or three players can work on the same generator at once, depending on where it sits on the map.

Two things to remember. If you take damage while repairing, you are kicked out of the puzzle. And progress on a puzzle is not saved if you leave it, so a new puzzle appears when you come back. So repair when the Killer is not close, and leave early if you hear or see them coming.

Which survivors to start with

The wiki lists twelve playable survivors, ranging from free to expensive in Player Points, which are earned in game. You do not need real money to start.

  • Noob: free. The wiki calls him a Survivalist with several consumables, including a Bloxy Cola, Slateskin Potion and Ghostburger, that help reduce damage and escape trouble. BlueStacks also recommends him as the starter pick.
  • Shedletsky: free. A Sentinel, the class that defends itself and teammates. His sword can stun the Killer for a few seconds and a fried chicken leg heals him a little. The wiki calls him the first free Sentinel.
  • Guest 1337: costs 500 Player Points and the wiki calls his kit one of the hardest to use, since you must block an incoming attack at the right moment and then punch back. Come back to him once you know the maps.

If you are new, try Noob first, then Shedletsky when you want to practice helping others.

Surviving a chase

  • Do not run in a straight line. Use walls and corners to break line of sight.
  • Keep an eye on your stamina bar. The wiki says stamina is one of four main stats (health, stamina, Malice and speed), and every sprint uses it.
  • Do not repair a generator if the Killer is already hunting you. Draw them away from other players first.
  • Stay apart from teammates when chased. The wiki notes that the free Killer Slasher has attacks that can hit more than one target, so taking a hit for someone else rarely works.

What the Killer is trying to do

Wiki tips for Slasher, the free Killer, say he has a wide melee reach, a smaller terror radius than most Killers, and an attack that leaves damage over time. The approach is to focus on one survivor and keep them under pressure. Knowing that, survivors should break the chase early instead of trying to fight.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Ignoring generators because they seem boring. They are how the round ends in your favor.
  • Failing to watch your health while repairing, since damage throws you out.
  • Buying anything with real money before you have tried the free characters. Purchases cost real money, so ask a parent or guardian first.

Quick checklist

  • Pick Noob or Shedletsky.
  • Find a generator far from the Killer and start repairing.
  • Leave when the Killer is near, and keep moving.
  • Work as a group when you can, because two or three players speed up a generator.
