Dandy's World Beginner Guide: How to Earn Ichor and Which Toons to Buy
A starter guide for Dandy's World: how machines and skill checks work, every way to earn Ichor, which starter Toon to pick and what to buy next.
Dandy's World is a survival game where you and other Toons finish machines on each floor while corrupted Toons called Twisteds hunt you. After this guide you will know how a floor works, how to earn Ichor faster, and which Toons are worth your first purchases. Ichor numbers come from the fan wiki and may change in future updates.
How a floor works
Each floor has two or more machines and at least two Twisteds, and both numbers grow as you go deeper. Fill the machines and use the working elevator (the other one is taped off with a Do Not Open sign) to reach the next floor.
When you work on a machine, a skill check appears at a random time as a gray bar with a small silver zone and a gold zone inside it. Hit the silver zone for a "Good Job!" and the gold zone for "Great Job!", which adds a little extra progress. If you miss, the machine stops and nearby Twisteds hear it and come to check. So the best habit is to stay calm, watch the bar and only work a machine when you know where the nearest Twisted is.
Every way to earn Ichor
Ichor is the main currency, and you spend it in the lobby shop. According to the wiki, you get it from:
- Filling a machine: 5 Ichor. If several players worked on it, each gets 1 Ichor for every 20 percent they contributed.
- Research capsules: 2 Ichor each. These are the small canisters with red valves that you find around the floor.
- Using your Toon's active ability: 5 Ichor, once per floor.
- Finishing floors: 5 Ichor (6 after floor 15), but only after you die.
- Meeting a Twisted for the first time: 1 Ichor (1.25 after floor 15), also paid after you die.
- Codes: the wiki lists ICHOR for 50 Ichor.
The practical lesson is to do as much of each machine as you safely can, grab every capsule you pass and use your ability once on each floor. In a team, fill your own machines instead of finishing ones that teammates started, since your share depends on how much you personally contributed. Ichor can also be bought for real money, but you do not need to: playing normally is enough, and young players should ask a parent first.
Pick your starter Toon
You begin by choosing Poppy or Boxten, and you can buy the other later for 250 Ichor.
- Poppy gets a 50 percent speed boost for 3 seconds whenever she is attacked, which helps you survive mistakes.
- Boxten gets 6 percent more extraction speed for every Toon still alive, up to 48 percent, so he is best in a full team.
Destructoid recommends both as beginner-friendly Toons. If you mostly play with friends, take Boxten. If you often play alone, take Poppy.
What to buy next
Before you spend, check the requirements, since some Toons need more than Ichor. Starting points from the wiki and Destructoid:
- The other starter Toon (250 Ichor), so you can switch to the one that fits your team.
- Tisha (500 Ichor): her pulse raises nearby Toons' speed by 25 percent for 5 seconds, so she works as a distractor.
- Finn (500 Ichor, plus finishing 15 different machines according to Destructoid): high extraction and skill check stats, and he is faster after finishing a machine.
- Toodles (350 Ichor and surviving 15 floors): her active ability can give a random stat a 15 percent boost for 10 seconds.
- Rodger (1,000 Ichor and at least 50 percent research on a Twisted): the Toon for collecting research, but he is slow.
Avoid buying Shrimpo just because he is cheap at 100 Ichor. The wiki says he has one star in every stat and a stealth penalty so big that it advises playing him only as a challenge.
Mistakes to avoid
- Spending 1,000 Ichor on a Toon you will not use. Plan the next buy first.
- Starting a machine with a Twisted close by.
- Skipping capsules, because they are free Ichor.
- Forgetting that more team members means faster machine progress, but also more Twisteds, so stay with your group on bigger floors.
